Furosemide is used for: Treating fluid build-up and swelling caused by congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney disease. It is also used in combination with other medicines to treat fluid build-up in the lungs. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Furosemide is a loop diuretic. Loop diuretics make the kidneys eliminate
larger amounts of electrolytes (especially sodium and potassium salts)
and water than normal (diuretic effect). Loop diuretics are useful for
treating many conditions in which salt and water retention (eg, edema,
swelling) is a problem. * you are allergic to any ingredient in Furosemide or to sulfonamides Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these
apply to you. Some medical conditions may interact with Furosemide. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you: * if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding How To Use Lasix Oral Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Measure out the prescribed dose carefully using the dropper or device that comes with your prescription. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In children, doses greater than 6 mg per kilogram of body weight are not recommended. It is best to take this medication early in the day, before 4-6PM, to prevent having to wake up during the night to urinate. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about your dosing schedule. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time(s) of the day as directed. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Lasix Oral Side Effects Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, blurred vision, loss of appetite, stomach upset, diarrhea, or constipation may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: * kidney disease If you have diabetes, furosemide may affect your blood sugar levels. Check your blood sugar levels regularly as directed and share the results with your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if you have symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst/urination. Your doctor may need to adjust your anti-diabetic medication or diet.
