* Levitra works by increasing the natural chemical known as cyclic guanosine
monophosphate (cGMP) found in the blood to higher levels than the patient
has, to ensure that more blood flow is directed to the penis and aids
the patient in obtaining an erection. What is vardenafil? * Vardenafil relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to particular
areas of the body. What should I discuss with my doctor before taking vardenafil? * Do not take vardenafil if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest
pain or heart problems. This includes nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual,
Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, and others), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR,
Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket).
Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate
or nitrite ("poppers"). Taking vardenafil with a nitrate medicine
can cause a serious decrease in blood pressure, leading to fainting, stroke,
or heart attack. What happens if I miss a dose? * Since vardenafil is used as needed, you are not likely to be on a dosing schedule. What happens if I overdose? * Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much
of this medicine. What should I avoid while taking vardenafil? * Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects
of vardenafil. What Are the Side Effects of LEVITRA? If the patient is on other medication, then consultation with the doctor is a necessary task, as it is important to ensure that Levitra can be prescribed for you in the correct dosage. Patients suffering from heart disease or high blood pressure may be on alpha blockers. This could prevent Levitra from being successful, as sexual activity combined with both types of medication could cause many side effects that can be more severe. Usually, the side effects are : * Headache The effects are minimal and don't last very long, but it is still important to consult with a medical practitioner if these symptoms persist. The rare instances that have been reported when taking Levitra: * vision changes, most commonly a colored tinge to objects, or mild color blind effects (with blue and green) can often occur in conjunction with a decrease in the ability to hear clearly, or bouts of tinnitus and dizziness. As yet, it is unknown where the link between Levitra and these side effects is found, although it has been suggested that they are more likely to be seen in patients suffering from high blood pressure or diabetes who are taking medication for the conditions. * Also, priapism can occur when taking Levitra. Priapism is where the
erection that has been maintained during sexual activity does not decrease.
This can cause permanent damage to the penis if medical treatment is not
sought after a maximum of four hours after sexual activity.
